An SBM Intelligence Report Shared on <\/span>Premium Times<\/span><\/a>, on December 4, 2023, stated that \u201c… <\/span>antibiotics recorded the highest price increases, with 500mg Ampiclox capsules recording the highest jump. The cost price is said to increase by 1,390 per cent and the selling price increasing by 1,100 per cent between 2019 and 2023.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But it\u2019s not only antibiotics. Antimalarials, Painkillers, and common cold medicines have all seen increase in prices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although the SBM report did not cover the rising price of antihypertensives, two Wellahealth Product team members – Blessing Adediwura and Khalidat Ola-Dauda – did a comparative analysis of 2020 selling price data and 2023 selling price of anti-hypertensives using data from Wellahealth’s huge database on selling prices for medicine from its over 2,000 pharmacies.<\/span><\/p>\n

One could see clearly the rising cost of antihypertensives which is fueled by several economic factors. Antihypertensives, for instance, is a common medicine for a growing population dealing with high blood pressure and related cardiovascular disease.<\/span><\/p>\n
